Emotional IQ

for Science-Based Professionals
We’re developing a new course focused on building the emotional intelligence needed to navigate difficult conversations and understanding the emotional dynamics of public-sector work, while developing skills to handle high-stakes situations.

What skills does your team need?

Help us shape this course into supporting you to deal with all the variables that come with people’s emotions (yours, staff’s, policymakers’, and the public’s).

Some of the obstacles we’ve heard so far:
  • “Some stakeholders are extremely selfish!”
  • “I didn’t become an engineer to deal with people’s anger.”
  • “Everyone feels demoralized by the constant and unwarranted attacks.”
  • “Irrational interests undermine everything.”
  • “Those who work in the field (for sanitation, parks and rec, harbor services, law enforcement, etc.) are constantly stopped by someone irate about something, and they have no training in how to diffuse or deal with it.”
  • “It’s hard to attract and retain staff when they see the [public show up with] pitchforks.”
